After flying high against the Norwood-Norfolk Flyers last Monday, the Massena Raiders came back down to earth. Massena fell just short of Franklin Academy by a score of 55-52. It was the first time this season that Massena let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Massena lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Taylor Mitchell. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with four steals. Mitchell is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Patterson, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.
Franklin Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ian Mulverhill out in front who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Zendann Poirier, who scored 15 points.
Massena's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-5. As for Franklin Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-4.
Massena will look to defend their home court on Saturday against South Jefferson at 12:30 p.m. South Jefferson is coming into the match with five straight victories on the road, so Massena is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum. As for Franklin Academy, they will be playing at home against Gouverneur at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Gouverneur is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season.
