Sumrall is 1-9 against Purvis since December of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sumrall Bobcats will venture away from home to face off against the Purvis Tornadoes at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Sumrall is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They took a 56-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lawrence County.
Despite the defeat, Sumrall got top-tier performance from Ella Robertson, who went 6 for 14 en route to 26 points and three steals. That was a full 60.5% of Sumrall's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Purvis played a tough match on Monday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Lawrence County 63-17. The Tornadoes have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Sumrall will have to contain Breleigh Adkins as she made an impact in Purvis' last game. She scored four points in addition to 11 boards and four steals. Adkins is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last six games she's played.
Even though they lost, Purvis smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 20 consecutive games.
Purvis' loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Sumrall, they now have a losing record at 12-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sumrall has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Purvis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 48.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Sumrall against Purvis in their previous matchup on January 10th, as the team secured a 69-33 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sumrall since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
