For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times McGuffey and Charleroi have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Highlanders put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Makenna Crothers made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Miley Main was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Maura Janovich was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
McGuffey kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
McGuffey pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.
