Huntington Beach is 1-9 against Laguna Beach since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Huntington Beach Oilers will be playing at home against the Laguna Beach Breakers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Huntington Beach and four for Laguna Beach.
Huntington Beach pushed their score all the way to 67 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 78-67 to Marina. Huntington Beach has not had much luck with Marina recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Logan Barker, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Nakra, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Laguna Beach came up short against Corona del Mar on Friday and fell 54-46. While losing is never fun, Laguna Beach can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Corona del Mar is ranked 60th).
Huntington Beach's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Laguna Beach, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 11-11.
Huntington Beach couldn't quite finish off Laguna Beach when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 46-44. Can Huntington Beach avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
