Oak Harbor is a perfect 4-0 against Maumee since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Rockets will take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Oak Harbor's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Maumee's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Oak Harbor took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Eastwood, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rockets skirted past the Eagles 4-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rockets.
Morgan Lalonde spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Karder Haas was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Schimmoeller, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Maumee won against Fostoria on Wednesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Panthers put the hurt on Rossford with a sharp 15-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Hannah Ruiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Maumee got a massive performance out of Julia Coutcher, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Reign Hurt, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Oak Harbor's record now sits at 17-5. As for Maumee, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Oak Harbor hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Maumee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Oak Harbor's way against Maumee in their previous matchup back in April, as Oak Harbor made off with an 8-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
