Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Columbus). They were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Bellevue East Chieftains on Thursday. The Discoverers not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 6, 2024.
Quenton Gustafson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gustafson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Columbus got a great performance from Easton Bell as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, Jack Holys was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season. Will Wickham was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
The win snapped Columbus' losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 2-8 record. As for Bellevue East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.
