After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kennedy, Derby was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Waterbury Career Academy Spartans with a sharp 14-2 win. The Red Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Nikolas Kotucek made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Derby is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-6 otherwise. Kotucek was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Derby got a massive performance out of Vincent Nuzzo, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
