It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Beatrice ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past the Hastings Tigers 4-3. The four-run effort marked the Orangemen's lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Austin Baldwin made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, Darrent Roeder was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Kale Koch was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Beatrice hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

The victory got Beatrice back to even at 3-3. As for Hastings, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Beatrice is set to challenge their familiar foe Seward at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Hastings will take on rival Central City/Centura at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
