After flying high against the Beaver Dam Diamondback last Friday, the Escalante Moquis came back down to earth. Escalante was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 48-47 to Green River. Escalante was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Green River apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Escalante's loss came despite strong showings from Korben Young and Jaxen Cottam. Young dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Cottam scored 16 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Cottam scored a full 34% of Escalante's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Among those leading the charge was Raul Mendoza, who scored 21 points. Another player making a difference was Jason Hernandez, who scored 9 points.
Escalante now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Green River, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escalante will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Telos at 1:30 p.m. on December 9th. Telos is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Green River, they will head out on the road to face off against Wayne at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Wayne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
