The Evansville North Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 44-43 to Gibson Southern. While losing is never fun, Evansville North can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Gibson Southern is ranked 21st).
When it comes to explaining why Evansville North lost, one person who can't be blamed is Vanessa Nankwenya. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nankwenya has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Libby Blythe, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Gibson Southern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paige Schnaus, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Chloey Graham, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Evansville North's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Gibson Southern, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 19-4.
Evansville North will be playing at home against Bloomington South at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Gibson Southern, they will face off against Evansville Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
