Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Gibbs Gladiators walked away with it. They breezed by the Falcons on the road to the tune of 59-17 on Monday. Gibbs has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 24 points or more this season.
Anaya Johnson was nothing short of spectacular: she scored 18 points. It was the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Butler, who scored 11 points.
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava Marchido, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals. Marchido also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Anna Patterson, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Gibbs is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Dunedin, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16.
Gibbs will take on Academy of the Holy Names at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Academy of the Holy Names knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Gibbs likes a good challenge. Dunedin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
