Having struggled with four losses in a row, Widefield turned things around against Harrison on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 3-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Gladiators have posted against the Panthers since September 21, 2023.
Widefield walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the second set). The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-14, 25-18.
Widefield found their leader in sophomore Leila Brown, who had 24 assists and two aces.
Widefield was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 12 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Canon City got the win against Mesa Ridge on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0.
The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Canon City was: they took every set by at least 11 points. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-14, 25-7.
Canon City's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Widefield, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Widefield has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Canon City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
