The Bishop Hartley Hawks will face off against the New Albany Eagles at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop Hartley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Bishop Hartley fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Bishop Watterson on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 7-6. Hawks fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Eagles since Monday.
Jasmine Wooten (2027) was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed eight innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Wooten (2027) was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double.
In other batting news, Khloe Lovell (2027) was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Iris Crites (2029) was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, New Albany lost 15-9 to St. Francis DeSales on Tuesday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bella Dues made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Madi Muzi, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
New Albany's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Bishop Hartley, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-7.
New Albany's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bishop Hartley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.1 hits per game. It's a different story for New Albany, though, as they've been averaging 11.6 hits. Given Bishop Hartley's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bishop Hartley suffered a grim 15-3 defeat to New Albany when the teams last played back in March of 2017. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
