Carolina Forest has gone 8-2 against Socastee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Carolina Forest Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Socastee Braves at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Carolina Forest is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They had just enough and edged out Sumter 9-8. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.
Brice Urso made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Urso was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Mark Allen Jr. was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Riser, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Carolina Forest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Socastee can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Wednesday. They skirted past East Clarendon 11-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Braves' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Luke Johnson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Lane, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-6. Another player making a difference was Jimmy Cocca, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Socastee's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Carolina Forest, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Socastee's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Carolina Forest has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Socastee, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Carolina Forest keep running through batters, or will Socastee buck the trend?
