The South Fremont Cougars will challenge the Kimberly Bulldogs at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. South Fremont has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
South Fremont took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Bonneville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bees 17-16. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Bees on their field since April 28, 2023.
The team relied heavily on Lexi Peebles, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Leah Lehmann also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, Kimberly entered their tilt with Canyon Ridge on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Riverhawks 9-2. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.
Gracie Alleman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Kimberly got a big performance out of Jaci Cowger, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Rhylee Weilep was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Kimberly's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for South Fremont, they picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 2-4.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. South Fremont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Kimberly struggles in that department as they've averaged .396. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Fremont suffered a grim 18-2 defeat to Kimberly in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
