Eldorado is 9-1 against Manzano since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Monarchs at 10:00 a.m. Eldorado will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Eldorado is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Sandia, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Eldorado was ranked eighth). The Eagles blew past the Matadors 13-7 on Saturday. Considering the Eagles have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Eldorado got a massive performance out of Timothy Kamphuis, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Sylas Tavarez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Eldorado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Manzano sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Santa Fe on Saturday.
Tristan Chavez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Chavez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bodey Ethridge was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Manzano is 5-1 when Ethridge posts two or more runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Bryce Walter was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Manzano's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12. As for Eldorado, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eldorado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .427. However, it's not like Manzano struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eldorado got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Manzano by a conclusive 18-7 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Monarchs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
