Softball Game Preview: Merritt Island Mustangs vs. Cocoa Beach Minutemen

The Merritt Island Mustangs will square off against the Cocoa Beach Minutemen at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.

Things were looking good for Merritt Island after they put the first points on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Astronaut by a score of 8-7.

Elena Rollen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Rollen is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stole at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Mady Hardin, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cocoa Beach, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against Father Lopez on Friday as Cocoa Beach made off with a 23-8 win. The Minutemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 15 runs or more this season.

Cocoa Beach got a massive performance out of Natalia Soto, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Soto also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Kylie Kahl was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Cocoa Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Cocoa Beach's victory bumped their record up to 4-2-1. As for Merritt Island, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Merritt Island has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Cocoa Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Merritt Island took their win against Cocoa Beach in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 14-1. Does Merritt Island have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cocoa Beach turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
