After four games on the road, Destin is heading back home. They will take on the Freeport Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Destin comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
Destin suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 54-23 loss at the hands of Central. Destin was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-13.
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to ten on the offensive boards, a fact Freeport proved on Thursday. They came out on top against Walton by a score of 53-45. The victory was just what Freeport needed coming off of a 71-47 defeat in their prior matchup.
Freeport got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sienna Fisher out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emma Ludwig, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Destin's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.2 points per game. As for Freeport, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Destin was taken down by Freeport 58-13 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Freeport's Jasmine Miles, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Now that Destin knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
