Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bruce). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 victory over the Vardaman Rams on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trojans considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Sutton Gore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Bruce is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-9 otherwise. Gore was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Cole Clark and Jayden McCormick did most of the damage at the plate: Clark went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while McCormick went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave McCormick a new career-high. Lane Stewart was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-5.
Bruce kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Bruce's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10. As for Vardaman, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-6.
