Make it four blowout wins for the Mead Mavericks this season. They blew past Silver Creek, posting a 60-16 win on the road. Given Mead's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Silver Creek is ranked 148th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mead got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gianna Wurth out in front who scored nine points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Elena Gomez, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Silver Creek still got an impressive performance from Izzy Spagnoletti, who scored 11 points along with five steals. That was a full 68.8% of Silver Creek's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Silver Creek struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Mead racked up 17 assists.
Mead's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Silver Creek, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Mead will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Centaurus at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Centaurus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 on Thursday. As for Silver Creek, they will head out on the road to challenge Windsor at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Windsor is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
