It was a good run, but the Zion Chapel Rebels unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of New Brockton by a score of 62-59. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Zion Chapel came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while New Brockton is ranked 235th).
Several Rebels players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Slade Grantham, who scored 22 points along with 5 rebounds. The contest was Grantham's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Speckert, who scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds.
Zion Chapel's defeat dropped their record down to 6-1. As for New Brockton, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Zion Chapel will challenge Florala at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Florala focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday. As for New Brockton, they will head out on the road to face off against Elba at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
