Baseball Game Preview: Adams Cougars vs. Samuell Spartans

Adams is a perfect 4-0 against Samuell since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will venture away from home to take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Adams has eight straight victories, Samuell has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Adams made up a huge gap compared to their last game against North Mesquite, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cougars blew past the Stallions 12-2 on Tuesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Diego Wong made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Nick Ortiz was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Adams: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Daniel Cantu was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.

Adams always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are 8-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Samuell's offense. They lost 20-0 to Poteet on Friday.

Adams' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Samuell, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything went Adams' way against Samuell in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Adams made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
