Frederick has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Fort Morgan Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Morgan took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Frederick, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Frederick didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Mountain View, but they still walked away with a 55-50 win.
Frederick's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Gabby Jima, who scored 14 points along with two steals, and Zoe Wittler, who scored 18 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jima has scored all season. Kaylee Gardner was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Fort Morgan suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Thompson Valley at home and fell 69-29. While losing is never fun, Fort Morgan can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 254th, while Thompson Valley is ranked 102nd).
Despite the loss, Fort Morgan had strong showings from Ava Taylor, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four blocks, and Shaelynn Ramirez, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 11 games she's played.
Frederick's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Fort Morgan, their loss dropped their record down to 1-12.
Everything came up roses for Frederick against Fort Morgan when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 85-14 victory. With Frederick ahead 43-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
