3A South Piedmont recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Northwest Cabarrus, who took down 185th ranked Mount Pleasant, 36-14.
Concord extended the longest winning streak in 3A South Piedmont this week by beating Robinson, 34-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
The Tigers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Michael Bingham threw for 100 yards and Ben Drake had 46 yards receiving. On the ground Denzal Gilmore chipped in 77 yards. Gilmore helped Mount Pleasant's passing attack out by catching two balls for 33 yards.
Concord's B.J. Beecher and Alex Asbury have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Beecher has thrown for 1507 yards this season, while Asbury, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 15 catches for 602 yards. A.L. Brown's Kalif Phillips leads the league in rushing yards with 689.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Glen Padgett's team takes on Central Cabarrus. The Spiders are currently in first, while the Vikings are in fifth.
The Trojans moved up to 221 from 286 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A South Piedmont. Northwest Cabarrus climbed the ranks as a result of a 36-14 win over Mount Pleasant.
