The Jasper Vikings fell victim to the Pleasant Grove Spartans''s stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Spartans on the road and fell 55-0. While losing is never fun, Jasper can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Pleasant Grove is ranked 29th).
Pleasant Grove's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eric Handley, who threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Clarence Taylor, who picked up 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Jasper's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Pleasant Grove, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Jasper will head out on the road to face off against Homewood at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Pleasant Grove will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lawrence County at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th.
