Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 11 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Plainview Pirates proved on Tuesday. They really took it to Madison for the full four quarters, racking up a 52-14 win at home. Given Plainview's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Madison is ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Abbie Kromarek was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Plainview's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelynn Dougherty, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Despite the loss, Madison saw an underclassman step up: Salena Duinkerken scored seven points along with eight rebounds. Duinkerken scored a full 50% of Madison's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Plainview pushed their record up to 5-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.6 points per game. As for Madison, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Plainview will head out on the road to face off against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. Madison will be home for the holidays to greet Oakland-Craig at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
