The South Williamsport Mountaineers couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They suffered a rough 47-22 defeat at the hands of Minersville on Saturday. South Williamsport lost against Minersville in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 52-47 score last time.
Several Mountaineers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Levi Butler, who scored 7 points. Another player making a difference was Radley Knapp, who scored 4 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Minersville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dante Carr, who scored 13 points along with 5 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which Carr has scored at least 25% of Minersville's points. Shazier Bethea was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 5 steals.
South Williamsport's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Minersville, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Williamsport will challenge Mansfield at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Mansfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday. As for Minersville, they will head out on the road to face off against Our Lady of Lourdes Regional at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
