McCutcheon and Harrison are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mavericks will face off against the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
McCutcheon is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Twin Lakes on Friday. The Mavericks put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 11-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won four in a row.
Jon Riley was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Blake Morrison also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: McCutcheon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Harrison waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Athenians 11-5. Considering the Raiders have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Harrison also got a great performance from Blake Scales as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Scales has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Jack Gonzalez was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew McTagertt, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Harrison pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for McCutcheon, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3.
Both McCutcheon and Harrison just can't seem to miss. The Mavericks have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Harrison struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McCutcheon came out on top in a nail-biter against Harrison when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Mavericks repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
