The Valders Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Random Lake Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Valders proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 15) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Winnebago Lutheran Academy 3-2.
Megan Hochkammer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Abby Schultz was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Random Lake got the win against Columbus Catholic on Saturday by a conclusive 14-8. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Valders, Random Lake also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Daggett. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Daggett was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Finlee Schicker was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Those RBI were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Laila Sanders, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Random Lake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Valders' record now sits at 3-0. As for Random Lake, their record is now 4-1.
Valders might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Random Lake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
