The Alcuin Hawks struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Alcuin lost to Garland Christian Academy at home by a decisive 37-20 margin. Alcuin has not had much luck with Garland Christian Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Luis Cuenca-Martinez was Alcuin's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Jake Walker took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Garland Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Caden Sandlin out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Sandlin is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jarren Edgerson, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Alcuin has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Garland Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Highlands the next time they take the court. Garland Christian Academy will host Highlands at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while Alcuin will head out to face them on Tuesday.
