The Salpointe Catholic Lancers will be taking part in a tournament against the Seton Catholic Sentinels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Last Wednesday, Salpointe Catholic got the win against Arcadia by a conclusive 7-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lancers.
Sam Meisner tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on David Driskill, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lucas Shannon, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Seton Catholic made sure to put some runs up on the board against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on Thursday. Everything went Seton Catholic's way against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy as Seton Catholic made off with a 13-4 victory. The Sentinels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by nine runs or more this season.
Seton Catholic also got a great performance from Brady Stephenson as he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Stephenson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jax Minnis was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Nathan Mulligan was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Seton Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pusch Ridge Christian Academy only posted a batting average of .185.
Seton Catholic's win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Salpointe Catholic, their record is now 2-0.
Salpointe Catholic might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Seton Catholic in their previous meeting back in March of 2018. Can Salpointe Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
