The Centerville Tigers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Leon 56-7 at home. The result was nothing new for Centerville, who have now won five matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Andrew Newman went supernova for Centerville, rushing for 200 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries. Newman was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Colton Pearson, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Centerville's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Zantayl Holley and Amarius Phillips who racked up six sacks between them.
Centerville's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points per game. As for Leon, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centerville will take on Normangee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Normangee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1128th, while Centerville is ranked 378th). As for Leon, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against West Hardin at 7:00 p.m. West Hardin comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
