The Downey Christian Patriots came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 70-39 win over IMG Academy Gray at home. Given Downey Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 146th, while IMG Academy Gray is ranked 380th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Downey Christian to victory were Maylon Marte and Chris Lopez. Marte scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Lopez scored 18 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Lopez scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Patrick Olajuwon, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and six blocks.
Downey Christian's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.8 points per game. As for IMG Academy Gray, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
Downey Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. IMG Academy Gray also has no future games currently scheduled.
