Lake Wales won the last time they faced Auburndale and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lake Wales Highlanders came out on top against the Auburndale Bloodhounds by a score of 9-5.

Giovanni Thompson and Melvin Bynes dominated on the mound. Thompson tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits, while Bynes pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Bynes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Brody Welborn was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Franks, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Lake Wales hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Auburndale struck out eight times.

Lake Wales has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Auburndale has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Lake Wales will be playing in front of their home fans against Owasso at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Auburndale, they are taking a road trip to square off against Winter Haven at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
