It's playoff time, and Highland had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let the Las Animas Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Saturday. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.
John Bingley made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Highland got a big performance out of DJ Rogers, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Rogers is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Byron Berkheimer also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Highland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Las Animas, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.
Coming up, Highland will venture away from home to take on Peyton at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Huskies 4.1, the Panthers 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Las Animas does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
