The Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks will challenge the Versailles Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Last Wednesday, Mississinawa Valley needed a bit of extra time to put away Randolph Southern. They had just enough and edged out the Rebels 6-4. The victory continues a trend for the Blackhawks in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won four in a row.

The team relied heavily on Cole McGlothlin, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Colton Hiestand was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mississinawa Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Versailles entered their tilt with Marion Local on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Flyers, sneaking past 3-1.
Chase Monnin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Versailles' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ben Subler, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Versailles pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mississinawa Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mississinawa Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Versailles struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
