The Abilene Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Cooper Cougars at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Abilene will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Abilene had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Memorial on Tuesday. Abilene put the hurt on Memorial with a sharp 13-0 victory. The matchup marked the Eagles' most dominant win of the season so far.

Avah Reyes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kinzley Cantu was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Makayla Gutierrez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double.
Abilene always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Memorial only posted an OBP of .111.
Meanwhile, Cooper hadn't done well against Wylie recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Cooper walked away with an 11-8 victory over Wylie. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Cooper got a big performance out of Natalyn Kuhn, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Angelic Gonzalez was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-4.
Abilene's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-7. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.3 hits in those games compared to only 5.1 in the others. As for Cooper, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 11-8.
Cooper's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Abilene has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cooper, though, as they've been averaging only 2 strikeouts. Will Abilene keep running through batters, or will Cooper buck the trend?
Abilene took their victory against Cooper in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0. Will Abilene repeat their success, or does Cooper have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
