The Albertville Aggies will take on the Ider Hornets at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Albertville's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Ider's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Albertville didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-21-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They never let Asbury get on the board and left with a 13-0 win on Friday. The Aggies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Chloe Reed was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendra McCaffrey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Katy Grace Willoughby, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Albertville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Ider sidestepped Piedmont for a 3-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.
Miklyn Troxtel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up six Ks. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Makinley Traylor was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Albertville's record now sits at 7-1. As for Ider, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
