The Richardson Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Irving Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Richardson's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 27-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lake Highlands. While losing is never fun, Richardson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 496th, while Lake Highlands is ranked 210th).
Despite the loss, Richardson had strong showings from Donovan Ford, who rushed for 146 yards, and Cole Cage, who threw for 163 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Irving, who are still winless after their seventh matchup. They fell just short of MacArthur by a score of 30-28.
Xavier Ybarra put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 133 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Napoleon Proctor, who picked up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.
This is the second loss in a row for Richardson and nudges their season record down to 3-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-2 Pearce (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 73.2% over those games). As for Irving, their loss was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-7.
Everything went Richardson's way against Irving in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as Richardson made off with a 21-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Richardson since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
