The Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Charlotte Christian Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Charlotte Christian is ranked 22nd).
Last Friday, Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] had to suffer through a rough 55-17 loss at the hands of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee. Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-7.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Tyler Green, who threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Christian put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Charlotte Country Day School 41-21. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Charlotte Christian.
Ryan Henley went supernova for Charlotte Christian, rushing for 168 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Charlotte Christian also got help from Micah Gilbert who showed off his sure hands for 89 receiving yards.
Charlotte Christian's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.
This is the second loss in a row for Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] and nudges their season record down to 5-5. As for Charlotte Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] took a serious blow against Charlotte Christian when the teams last played back in September, falling 38-3. Can Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
