The Evansville Reitz Panthers will play host again and welcome the Boonville Pioneers, where kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Evansville Reitz is not getting complacent, as they comes into the match much higher ranked than Boonville in Indiana (Evansville Reitz is ranked 13th, while Boonville is ranked 122nd).
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Evansville Reitz beat Evansville Mater Dei 14-10.
Evansville Reitz got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Roland Vera Jr. out in front who rushed for 101 yards on only ten carries, and also threw for eight yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Hayden Summers, who picked up 40 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Boonville's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were outmatched by Gibson Southern on the road and fell 35-8. Having soared to a lofty 45 points in the game before, Boonville couldn't push the score so high this time.
Evansville Reitz's victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating across those contests too: they took their wins by an average of 26 points. As for Boonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Evansville Reitz has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 197.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Boonville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 164.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Evansville Reitz and Boonville were almost perfectly matched up in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, but Evansville Reitz suffered an agonizing 28-27 loss. Thankfully for Evansville Reitz, Clay Conner (who rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 157 yards and a touchdown on only 14 passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
