The Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles will take on the Union Colony Prep Timberwolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dayspring Christian Academy has three straight wins, Union Colony Prep has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Thursday. Dayspring Christian Academy walked away with a 3-1 victory over Gilpin County.
Dayspring Christian Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-11.
Matise Lujan was the offensive standout of the match as she had 13 digs and two aces. Abby Brown also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: Dayspring Christian Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. They are a perfect 7-0 when they serve at least ten aces.
Meanwhile, Union Colony Prep came up short against Flatirons Academy last Thursday, falling 3-0.
The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 25-14, 25-12.
Despite the defeat, Union Colony Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dulce Morales had 17 digs and one assist. Morales has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more digs the last three times she's played.
Union Colony Prep's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Dayspring Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Dayspring Christian Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Union Colony Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
