North Mesquite is a perfect 5-0 against Adams since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Stallions will welcome the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. North Mesquite has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
North Mesquite fell victim to Poteet and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Pirates, falling 18-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Stallions in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost four in a row.
Meanwhile, Adams got the win against Seagoville on Tuesday by a conclusive 24-2. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Olivia Melendez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five stolen bases, and four runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Salmeron, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.
Melendez wasn't the only one making solid contact: Adams kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for the Cougars: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.
The victory made it two in a row for Adams and bumps their season record up to 7-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for North Mesquite, their loss dropped their record down to 5-19.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. North Mesquite hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Adams struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went North Mesquite's way against Adams in their previous meeting back in March, as North Mesquite made off with a 17-4 victory. Will the Stallions repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
