Alamo Heights is 1-8 against Sam Houston since November of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Alamo Heights Mules will head out on the road to challenge the Sam Houston Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. Alamo Heights is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to 12 on the offensive boards, a fact Alamo Heights proved on Friday. They walked away with a 58-47 win over Brackenridge. Given Alamo Heights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Brackenridge is ranked 607th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alamo Heights got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sophia Zadel out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Zadel is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Berkley Hart, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Sam Houston unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell to Burbank 55-51.
Alamo Heights has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season. As for Sam Houston, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.
Alamo Heights didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Sam Houston when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 56-50 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Alamo Heights since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
