Jay Chapman and Sam Setzer were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Chapman didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Setzer tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave Chapman a new career-high. At bat, Chapman scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances, while Setzer went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. Chapman has become a key player for Coosa Valley Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 10-15 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brett Hackett, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Payton, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Coosa Valley Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .569. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cornerstone Christian only posted an OBP of .100.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Macon-East Montgomery Academy's offense. They fell 5-0 to Lakeside School on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Knights' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Coosa Valley Academy pushed their record up to 13-15 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.
