Perryville and North East are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Panthers will challenge the Indians at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Perryville has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Perryville is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against North Harford, falling 15-9.
Taylor McGuirk was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Cantrell, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, North East made sure to put some runs up on the board against Elkton on Tuesday. The Indians put the hurt on the Golden Elks with a sharp 13-1 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Indians' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Jazmyn Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, North East let Corinne Logullo and Taylor Zellner run wild. Logullo got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Zellner went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Zellner has posted since back in March. Victoria McGee was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
North East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
The victory got North East back to even at 6-6. As for Perryville, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Perryville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Perryville came up short against North East in their previous meeting on April 3rd, falling 4-1. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
