Softball Recap: Woodford County Wins Going Away Against Boyle County

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Assumption, Woodford County was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Boyle County Rebels with a sharp 16-5 victory. The Yellowjackets have beaten the Rebels the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rebels has come to flipping the script.

Sophia Gannon made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addie Bryant was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Boswell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Woodford County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

The win got Woodford County back to even at 1-1-1. As for Boyle County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodford County will challenge Madison Central at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Boyle County, they will face off against Madison Southern at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Boyle County's pitchers better be ready for this one: Madison Southern has averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
