Metro Tech had lost seven straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-10 to make it eight. They lost 13-2 to the Carl Hayden Community Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-1 back in March.
Kristopher Soberanis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
As for Carl Hayden Community, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-7. Considering they have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
On Carl Hayden Community's side, Rigo Mendez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Mendez has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Carl Hayden Community is undefeated when Mendez posts three or more RBI, but 4-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yaniro Rios, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Carl Hayden Community: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Eric Nevarez Mendez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Looking ahead, Metro Tech will challenge Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.88 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Carl Hayden Community, they will face off against Fairfax at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Stampede have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
