CORE Butte is 0-3 against Burney since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Lynx will welcome the Raiders at 4:00 p.m.
CORE Butte is headed into Thursday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chester.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burney). Everything went their way against Fall River on Tuesday as they made off with a 21-3 victory. The win was nothing new for the Raiders as they're now sitting on four straight.
Mia Perez and Alexis Witzel were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Perez pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Witzel pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Perez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Perez went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base, while Witzel got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Witzel a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalia Maldonado, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Emily Aubuchon was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Burney was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fall River only posted a batting average of .300.
Burney pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for CORE Butte, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
CORE Butte might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Burney in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Will the Lynx have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
