The Lyford Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Rio Hondo Bobcats with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Lyford walked away with a 27-14 win over Rio Hondo on Friday. This was payback for Lyford, who suffered a 20-14 loss the last time these two teams met.
Lyford got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Olivas out in front who threw for 316 yards and a touchdown while picking up 12.2 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Adrian Chavez also helped out with an impressive 189 receiving yards.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Rio Hondo to a paltry 208 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lyford's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Rio Hondo's QB won't forget Alejandro Tijerina anytime soon given Tijerina sacked him twice.
Lyford's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Rio Hondo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lyford will take on Industrial at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Industrial knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully Lyford likes a good challenge. As for Rio Hondo, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Edna at 7:00 p.m. Edna presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rio Hondo in Texas (Edna is ranked 230th, while Rio Hondo is ranked 856th).
